Ines
She believed it was love
He gave her his full attention
Ines was a shy 16-year-old high school girl from an economically deprived family. One day, she met Miloš at a local mall. He was confident, handsome, and drove a flashy car. Miloš began courting her by complimenting her, buying her small gifts, and taking her out for dinners and trips.
He frequently told her that she was beautiful and expressed his love for her, saying he wanted to build a future together. He often said, “You’re everything to me. I’ll take you away from this place and give you the life you deserve”.
She was over the moon that he had chosen her over her more popular schoolmates.
After a few weeks, she became convinced that he was her soulmate.
Isolation and surveillance
Her parents and brother were suspicious of her relationship, so she began to distance herself from them, as well as her friends. Eventually, she only spent time with Miloš, who became aware of her every move. They secretly planned to go abroad together to live happily.
Going abroad
When the day of her departure came, she took her passport and packed some clothes. Her brother noticed what she was doing and asked her about it, but she refused to share any details. She then got into Miloš’ car with her luggage and drove off.
Noticing that the car only contained his sister’s luggage, her brother felt something was wrong and decided to call the police. They promptly identified the situation as a potential human trafficking ‘loverboy’ case, and stopped the car before it could reach the state border.
Investigation and victim protection
The investigation revealed that Miloš was part of an organised crime group which had been recruiting young girls to be sold for sexual exploitation abroad.
Ines remained safe and protected due to her brother’s vigilance and the prompt action of the police.
