JeS Multisensory Week
From 25 to 29 November, the training week took place at the Multisensory Space hosted by Laurea in Vantaa, Finland.
The multisensory method involves engaging multiple senses—sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell—to create a richer, more immersive experience. By building such environments, learners look for the important core of concepts and themes and, on the other hand, link emotions to learning. At Laurea, the method has been used since 2007, particularly as a tool for learning about diversity and encounters.
During the workshop, we worked on human rights: the right to a home, the right to safety. In the context of our workshop, we used the multisensory method to explore the human rights aspect of belonging and home. By creating environments that stimulate various senses, we aimed to evoke emotional and cognitive responses that enhance understanding and empathy.
This method allowed us to investigate complex themes, such as the experience of belonging for different groups, including refugees, migrants, and migrant workers. Through a multisensory approach, we could better appreciate the diverse ways in which individuals experience and interpret their sense of home and safety.
The members of the consortium and the people who accompanied them participated: migrants and refugees, workers with migrants, students from some of the partner universities.
The aim of this activity was to train project participants in an innovative methodology to facilitate the sharing of stories.
