Aysun
Having to flee your home country
After the coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016, approximately 600,000 people were detained, and more than 100,000 were arrested, according to data up to 2020. Most of those arrested were teachers, journalists, academics, and even minors. The charges were often based on routine activities such as performing their jobs, depositing money in banks, attending charity events, or reading newspapers. Thousands of people were forced to flee the country, and approximately 200,000 individuals applied for asylum in European countries.
One of them is young Aysun. By telling her story, she could share her traumatizing experience as a young refugee.
