Tinkara Domjani\u010d, afgestudeerd aan de Faculteit Strafrecht en Veiligheid van de Universiteit van Maribor, behandelt in haar bachelorscriptie mensenhandel in Sloveni\u00eb. Ze analyseert onder andere een geval van gedwongen huwelijk waarbij een minderjarig meisje uit Macedoni\u00eb werd verkocht aan een gezin in Maribor. Naast het gedwongen huwelijk werd het slachtoffer onderworpen aan dwangarbeid, slavernij, seksuele uitbuiting, psychisch en fysiek geweld, beperking van bewegingsvrijheid en voedsel, en controle over haar communicatie. Na haar ontsnapping kreeg ze gedurende het hele proces continue ondersteuning. Ze werd eerst ondergebracht in een noodopvang van Caritas Sloveni\u00eb en vervolgens opgenomen in de veilige opvang- en re-integratieprogramma's van de Klju\u010d Society \u2013 Centrum voor de Bestrijding van Mensenhandel. Daar ontving ze uitgebreide medische zorg, psychosociale en juridische ondersteuning, inclusief emotionele steun voorafgaand aan haar getuigenis en inschrijving in het voortgezet onderwijs. Tijdens het onderzoek en de rechtszaak kwamen drie obstakels aan het licht: een taalbarri\u00e8re, het te laat aanleveren van tijdgevoelig bewijsmateriaal en respectloze behandeling van het slachtoffer door de advocaten van de verdachten.
